Kalimat dengan struktur Simple Past Tense digunakan untuk menyatakan tentang kejadian yang terjadi di waktu lampau. Time signal yang digunakan adalah sebagai berikut:

• Yesterday 
• Last week/ month/year 
• Last night 
• Two weeks ago  
• This morning 

Berikut adalah struktur kalimat Simple Past Tense:
Bentuk Verbal: Kalimat positif
(+):  Subject (S) + V2 + O Kalimat negatif
(-): Subject (S) +did +  not + V1 Kalimat interogatif
(?): Did +Subject + V1 ?

Bentuk Nominal: Kalimat positif
(+):  Subject (S)+ was/were+ adjective/adverb/noun Kalimat negatif
(-): Subject (S)+was/were+not+ adjective/adverb/noun Kalimat interogatif
(?):was/were +Subject (S)+ adjective/adverb/noun ?   

Contoh:

(+):  They went to Surabaya last week 
(-):  They didn’t go to Surabaya last week.  
(?):  Did they go to Surabaya last week? 

(+): She wrote a letter yesterday 
(-):  She didn’t write a letter yesterday      
(?):  Did she write a letter yesterday? 

(+): They took the course last month      
(-):  They didn’t took the course last month      
(?):  Did they take the course last month?
